Nishani Dava Angatha
Plz Plz watch Nishani Dava Angatha. It's a new marathi movie released y'day. Very rarely do you come accross a marathi movie which you can recommend. Nishani Dava Angatha is one such movie. It's a brilliant take on government scheme going haywire because of loopholes & apathy of people implementing it. The film is based on the award winning novel of d same name. It's a black comedy, a genre rarely handled in Marathi Cinema. Dialogues are outstanding so are d performances. Ofcourse with Ashok Saraf, Makrand Anaspure, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Dr. Mohan Agashe, Vinay Apte, Nirmiti Sawant playing important roles, you can expect nothing but fire crackers.
Captivating story, tight screenplay, extraordinary performances, memorabale dialogues & a director with total command over the medium are the main pillars of any good movie. Nishani Dava Angatha is strong on all these count. It's a landmark movie in Marathi. Not many filmmakers are capable of transforming a popular book or novel in a good cinema. Even Danny boyle had struggled to make Slumdog Millionere a flawless film eventhough it rocked Bafta, Goldan Globe & Oscars. The film had some glaring drawbacks viz a viz the novel on which it was based.
There is no intention to compare Nishani... with Slumdog because of the sheer scale & magnitude of the latter. The point I want to drive home is director Purushottam Berde and screenplay writers Ajit & Prashant Dalvi have achieved something which not many have been able to do. And they need to be applauded. Eventhough you don't quite often go to multiplexes to watch a marathi movie, make an exception this time. It's a must watch!!

UPA rocks
Saturday, 16th May will always be remembered as d landmark day for Indian democracy & for India as a nation. People of India have decisevely voted for progressive forces. The signal is loud & clear... we are just not interested in caste & religon based politics. Mandir nahi ration chahiye. majhab nahi shanti chahiye. The party which talks of development & economy will be our choice. And Indian people have made their choice. It's congress all d way.
Some of my friends are not happy with these results. According to them, India should get rid of congress as early as possible. BJP, with its Hindutva idealogy is going to solve their problems. Ram Mandir is going to give them their daily bread & butter and state sponsored riots are going to help them earn their salaries in dollers. Indian Middleclass (upper, affluent class & not d lower middleclass) always has this infatuation abt BJP. This is especially surprising for d fact that BJP have never fulfilled any of middleclass' dreams. Indian economy is booming because of congress. India has made giant strides in science is because of congress, middle class flourishing is because of congress policies & d same middle class holding congress responsible for all the ills of indian society is the height of hyppocracy.
It's really hyppocratic on part of Indian middleclass to hold congress responsible for each & every problem this country is facing. And I feel very sad when educated urban youth speaks d same language... well some of them. They conveniently forget that whatever fruits they are enjoying today of economic liberalisation is because of congress. Be it setting up institutes like IIT, IIM, & IIS (or even no. of other colleges across nation), be it telecom & I-T revolution, be it opening up of market or be it maintaing the social fabric, it is congress which always took a solid (& progressive) position.
It will be foolish to say that there is no corruption or no drawback in congress raj. But then no party is clean. At the same time one should also look at d policies different parties wish to pursue or what there stated stand is on various issues facing our nation. And on this major count, congress lends confidence. We must thank god that it was congress that was in power at d time of monetary crisis & not BJP which don't have a specific economic policy. It was because of congress & Manmohan Singh that Indians are the least affected lot in d world in current crisis and yet Indian middle class do not want to acknowladge that.
Let them not. But Indian voters by & large have acknowladged this & gave their verdict. That is what matters! UPA rocks, Manmohan rocks, India rocks!!
Jai ho!!!!

Children of Heaven
dostano..
just decided to take a shot at blogging & here I am to share with u my thoughts Just saw a mindblowing movie - children of heaven. It's not a new movie. It had rocked the festival circuits around d globe a decade ago including our vary own asian film festival. A simple, moving film by Iranian director Majid Majidi, it's a story abt a brother & sister, their misery, their bond, how they cope up with d situation. This is the film which took Iranian Cinema to global platform & cemented it's position. The film has a strong emotional quotient but no ronadhona, no melodrama. No technical wizardry, no exceptional camera angles, no larger than life taking... a simple, pure, emotional story told in the most simple manner that touches your heart immediately.
A boy (the protagonist) looses his sisters shoes which she used to wear while going to school. The family is so poor that they can't afford to buy a new pair of shoes. These children can't tell their father abt this fearing that he would beat them up. So they come up with d solution. Sister has a morning school & brother has an evening school so she goes to school wearing her brother's shoes while he eagerly awaits her return. This goes on for a few days without knowledge of their parents. Then a running race is announced in brother's school & the third prize is shoes. So the boy decides to participate thinking abt winning those shoes & then exchanging them for ladies shoes for her sister. what happens next??
The beauty of this film is that the story simultaneously works on different levels. There are so many layers that it is not really possible to explain. The way this film has been treated is praiseworthy. Children are so cute & complete natural. Their poverty has made them adult before their age. They show this amazing understanding abt the things happening around them, yet they have not lost their childhood innocenceAnd incredible thing is that there is no ronadhona in this 1 hr 15 mts long movie.
Apane yaha aisi filme kab banengi? Karodo rupaye kharch karte hain aur ek story thikse dikhani nahi ati. It's amazing how a director with minimum resources at his disposal can do wonders on silver screen if his heart is at right place.
